The Sontag Prize in Urban Education is awarded to excellent teachers from across the nation. The experience begins with a week-long Acceleration Academy during school breaks, where motivated students from underserved communities are paired with one of the nation’s top teachers for an equivalent of one month of focused instruction.

Recipients of the Sontag Prize join a nationwide network of excellent teachers with access to lifelong collaboration, professional development, and celebration. Our program provides a key improvement strategy to schools and districts, elevates the teaching profession, and further promotes academic success for our most underserved students.
