We believe great teachers deserve to be recognized and celebrated. We also know that great teachers can have a profound impact on students’ lives even in a relatively short period of time.
For these reasons we created a unique program, the Sontag Prize and Acceleration Academies, that rewards excellence in teaching and provides students from low-income communities with fun, engaging learning experiences.
The Sontag Prize
The Sontag Prize is an annual award that recognizes and celebrates outstanding educators from across the country for excellence in teaching. First-time Sontag Prize recipients receive:
A $3,000 honorarium
Two days of professional development at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
An invitation to an awards dinner gala where recipients from across the country are recognized and celebrated
The Acceleration Academies
Educators selected for the Sontag Prize expand their impact beyond their classrooms by committing to teach in an Acceleration Academy, a week-long academic program designed to provide small groups of students with fun, engaging lessons that will accelerate their learning. The Acceleration Academies take place during the February and April school breaks in Massachusetts, with the February Academy focused on English language arts and the April Academy focused on math and science.
Our mission is to celebrate excellent teachers and to spark dramatic academic growth for students. We help school districts serving low-income communities across the country maximize their impact by accessing untapped sources of teacher talent and instructional time.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity
We strive to create a more equitable and flourishing nation by closing the opportunity gap. To that end, we strive to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization that models and contributes to the vision we hope to achieve.
